godday rob

Got a race bike for the daly commute, hopefully joining a road bike club soonish to get lots of miles on the clock. England were beaten by france in the final 6 nations thus allowing france the 6 nations title, england again left the come back too late (see ireland) after a shocking first half where we didnt fire at all. Mike Cat arrives on the scene, england play better no question. bought couple of cds a few books and about 5 dvds all just 56 notes. I watched a david cronenburg movie last night/this morning called shivers, quite good actually scarey and 70s offbeat maddness. Took back my slicks yesterday and replaced one and got a credit slip for the other one. for the replaced I got a semislick which might be more useful on these mean streets.

Listening to bill hicks/nirvana docu on the md, again. Whoah is so fucking hot!!!

bike, fucking bike

yesterday in the goddamn poring rain on the cascade home from work I broke the time by a long shot, a new record of 6'32" (mins, seconds) just because I was kaning it so bad. I was completely mutherfucking soaked by the time I arrived back home but fuck it was worth it. Today, no rain, no need really for the speed, 6'34'' and a fucking flat tyre bitching. I need a new bike dude. A racing bike. Payday today. Hair cut, cut toms + he returned the favor.

went to badminton last night, had stopped raining by that time altho roads were wet. cycled there in about 15 mins/. great 3 hours seems a good standard and nice people.

going to have to walk in tomorrow and friday, getting that front tyre off the bike is going to be a reall fucking bitch. 2 miles, how long is that going to take??? :(

cycling

set a new record for the cycle back from work. 6'52" with one new slick and one old fat tyre.

work was shit today, either I was taking ages to do everything or it was just taking ages;

listening to cLOUDDEAD at the moment, damn fine tunes baby! i need some bigger better faster cans for my computer. the lead on these phones which I usually use for my md is far too short and I have to sit very close to the desk which is not suited to headbanging.

i need to cut my hair, its all over the place. well it would be if it were long but you get the picture (i hope, if not email me). quite cold this morning, still quite windy, blue fluffy skies with tinges of grey atm. taking the shades to work tomorrow.

Walking all over this fair town

Ive walked, and then Ive walked some more, then I walked and walked and walked. I checked out the town today. Well some of it. I went to fopp which is an excellent record shop, and bought cds(Zen Comp remixed, charlie mingus, cLOUDDEAD, Beastie Boys,Wu Tang Clan, the Smiths,Marvin Gaye, eels) and a book (100 yrs of solitude, gabriel garcia marquez) all for 52 notes. I got some more shirts and ties. Found the arthouse cinema and got a scheduler. I went to Mikes Bikes and got some slick tyres and a lock, although Ive only fitted one slick because the other is too big. Can you fucking believe that? I asked for 2 slick tyres for my mountain bike: one was the right size 26'' but the other is 28'' bugger! So I have one slick front tyre and a back full grip 2.1'' wide baby, crazy. I need to replace the back wheel and also the front wheel asap because they are both fucked, the back is severely buckled from last weeks curb incident and the front has bearing issues and is in need of replacement.

Scotland were thrashed (didnt see the match, judging from the scoreline) 31-0 by France. England shaded a thriller with Wales yesterday and Ireland beat Italy in a sleepinducing match. ManU beat Spurs 3-0 to end a fucking aweful streak of loses. In the cricket Eng are 92 runs ahead of the Windies at the end of day three with 4 wickets and an inns to burn.

Mothers day today, bought her some flowers from the internet, arrived Friday, from interflora. Spoke to her yesterday. Went to juggling club tonight, was okay. Not close to the friendly atmosphere at FJC but its a place to juggle so Im not complaining. Walked to town and back twice today! Crazy weather: black clouds one min then blue skies the next. Super rainbow: double rainbow on the way to CCC aka juggling club.

First Week

Saturday morning, first week over. Biking in is really easy. The weather is the only negative as Friday it was a little wet on the route in: need to get some biking trousers. It is very windy in Cambridge, especially yesterday and today. I played footie with the guys from work which was good: I played average (not played for ages) but it was good to get playing again and to get some more exercise. The ride in is about 2 miles and my max so far is 7min50sec, thats moving time as I have to stop to cross Milton Road which is very busy. Work has been good, learning the ropes still, finding where everything is and people's names. Had a group meeting seeing what others are doing on the project. My work is to do with blocking a soduim channel in the peripheral nervous system, specifically to do with pain. I've made one final product which Ive put in for testing, as well as two others which are in various stages of synthesis/purification. Ive been wearing smart clothes all week, somthing i never did at tripos: it feels good, a little more hastle to get done in the morning perhaps, but when i get home change straight out of them and feel refreshed. Rather than stay in the same clothes all day all evening.
Ordered some flowers off interflora with the brother for mother's day tomorrow, just got an email from mum saying they arrived.Easy. Im going off to explore some of Cambridge today? I need a lot of stuff, quite skint at the moment until the 2nd payday (paid monthly unlike the agency contract people in the lab who are paid weekly). Ive been getting sandwiches from work (two delivery vans everyday go round the science park) but these are quite expensive so I might start making my own (?).

Day Uno

Im losing my mind, creative kind you have to be warned as I am not writing any good words just meaningless spittle.

Okay first day at the new job, first day at a nine till five (8.30 till 5 actually) went well. Today mainly was safety, tours and meeting people. There are lots of contract chemists, and a lot of the people in general are youngish. The place is very smart, I cycled in this morning and it took about 10 mins. Lunchtime I found the science park's restaurant where they do takeaway sandwiches and soup of which i had a very nice former, although I was starving by the time 5 rolled round. I am very glad that there is not a vending machine as there was at TRR because that was a source of chocolate and crisps and fizzy drink which was not too good.
Last night I went to juggling club which after eventually finding it (got quite lost for a while) was good, there was lots of kit to try out/use and the hall is quite high altho not as high as FJC. They had a couple of gladiators games at the end which I shall have to join in next time as they look fun.

Started Catcher in the Rye last night altho fell asleep before too many pages turned. Still in the middle of Wild Swans which is good, just taking a break if you know what I mean.

Cambridge

Well yeah!!! I am here at last!!! Moved this afternoon, thanks mum for the lift! I have started unpacking my stuff: the pc is up and broadband is running. England won the cricket after West Indies shock collapse all out for 47 leaving us in need of only 20 to win which we easily managed! ManU thrashed 4-1 by city in the premiership.
--
I walked into town and eventually found the Cambridge Community juggling club after getting really lost. well I walked down a really long road without realising that I was going the wrong route :( Good exercise though! I am knackered! The new juggling club is totally different from Farnham: everyone is older and more are student and professional types (i.e. less performers). Its strange, they have lots of kit which is good. Its in the Drama Centre. Im so beat that I cannot write with any meaning so Ill stop there! Night. First day tomorrow.

Belle de Jour

there are many blogs in my favorites, few of which i regularly read. scorpiogirl, mun's place, and belle de jour. The latter's author has been signed up for a 6 figure book deal, as reported in the London Times's T2 the other day. Alas, also in blogging news, scorpiogirl has posted what looks atm to be her last post. Too bad! I shall miss that one. It could be a ruse, because she is nominated in the bloggies which are announced next monday.

Today ive been shopping for some smart clothes. I went to bracknell and bought shirts trousers and smart jeans, had a look in Clarks for some cheapish work shoes (had none that I could see) and then attempted Camberley but couldn't be arsed parking as there was an almighty queue for the carpark and I was already hacked off with shopping already. Had a nice lunch with the rents, who got back from La Gomera last night, and then this afternoon I played a badminton match - wellington college sports club (badminton) members against wellington college school (mainly resident pupils but also oldboys, staff and others). It was great, I had only played badminton only once (last weds) this year but I was playing well. I've a nice blister on my right thumb achieved in the last game (was quite painful and bloody, the grip was quite sticky!!) for the efforts. Im off for a meel with the rents to a chinese tonight, getting a lift to cambridge tomorrow with mum and my stuff. Start work on Monday.

It snowed loads thursday night, good quality shit. Great for the one snowball I made before bed, next day it went real quick unfortunately.

Fuck

Manchester United are OUT of Europe after drawing 1-1 with Porto and therefore 2-3 on aggregate. We were 1-0 up for all the game until the 88th minute when they were awarded a nonfoul and freekick. Ive recently been migrating back and forth between 5 and three. I am going to begin learning new 3-ball tricks. I saw the excellent 3-ball improv juggling at Bremen EJC 2002 (?) from Alan Plotkin's site: totally inspirational!!! Basically its three jugglers each with 2 balls plus the guy juggling who has one more, each take it in turns to improv jawdropping 3-ball tricks and then they pass the 3rd ball along to the next juggler, and so on for about 10 mins of damn fine supremeness. :>

BLACK

Out there, the clouds are black, blacker than ever I have seen before. The air is cold yet the sun is very dazzle bright. Listening to the Burst radio show at the moment, Ive sent off some emails to see if i can check out some places in Cambridge sharpish. Also phoned the doctors in manchester (to whom I'm still registered) to try and get my immunisation details for a medical form which I've to send off to my new employers before I start the job.

fuck fuck fuck

guess who we've got in the semis? arsenfuckingal. did you see their 5-1 thrashing of pompey the other day. we/re fucking fucked. just applied for my first credit card, paid a cheque in and got some shopping. bastards.

HEadaChe

final juggling club meet for me in the southeast for the moment as I am moving up to Cambridge imminently (soon as I sort out my digs). Fuck Im knackered. It was okay, a dude took over the audio from Tim (shite taste of music for juggling to) and put some strokes and Bowie. I did 5balls and 4shower and 3-clubs till I am bleeding.
Cruel intentions was on this night, seen before but still fucking awesome. Cats and Dogs on the video, as is Movern Kellar. Shumacher won the GP which I cant believe I watched - rerun from early hours - so bloody predictable, so shite. France scraped a victory over Wales in the rugger. Sunderland through to semis in FA Cup and Millwall/Tranmere drew so their also through to the draw tomorrow lunchtime. Theres this article on ionchannel receptor drugs totally to do with what the company I shall be working for do, I'll read it proper tomorrow as Ive only scanned it tonight.

*@%#ing hell mate England lose to fucking ireland

England fucking lost to fucking ireland in the fucking rugby today. We were totally outplayed for 60 mins and left it too late to get back into things. We were storming their lines for the last 20 but the damage had already been done. Steve Tompson's lineouts were hugely error ridden and we struggled to string anything to note except for a fortunate try in the first 40. Shit fuckers.

Manchester United beat Fulham in the FA Cup 1/4 finals. Arsenal thrash Pompey 5-1 in another 1/4 final. The remaining two 1/4 finals are tomorrow. The first GP of the 2004/5 season is tonight/tomorrow morning. I don't know whether I will stay up for this one... Im quite tired you see, went shopping returned a shirt, got the newspaper and newscientist, a metallica live EP which has lots of old tunes and its phat baby, also a Belle and Sebastian video DVD which was pretty fucking wank. HRmm yeah.

Jobbed Up

I knew the key to getting a job was to be as laid back and unprepared as possible. Well I've got a job in Cambridge starting a week Monday so it appears to have worked. Its a temporary position till the end of July but I'm dead chuffed. Come on baby!!!

Thursday, March 04, 2004

tunes, lots of tunes. Found this cool band called nuclear rabbit. they;re crazy. Watched footie, Finally getting used to the Dubes and have almost got mills mess down, the problem with them is that they are soo long, my newspaper clubs are tiny in comparison: about 15cm smaller and much narrower too. The cold spell has departed, raining as i write. gp into the nite...

Blue

I fucking hate interviews. Second interview today in Didcott. Went pretty aweful to be honest. Beautiful day. Travel went well. Things to learn: revise organic chemistry for the next ones, prepare convincing story of sandwich placement and final yr project.
The bro's doing a solo radio show in a few mins: listen. I've been collecting lots of music off the interweb recently and quite a lot are really good, Ive about 120 mp3s and just pop them all into the playlist of winamp and press random for some funky loving! I am going to have a go at redesigning the Bro's radio show webpage with all this time I have. The burst site is in asp but apparently he can put html into it and make individual pages. Last night just as I was drifting off to nod I heard an owl hooting. Something I've never heard before here, also the foxes were shouting. Crazy! IM high at the moment, the rents are having their room redecorated and there is pungent toxicity in the air baby. I weighed the borrowed clubs yesterday, trying to figure why they are killing my hands soo much: the answer is they;re fucking 250g which is a huge weight. Slow spin, high momentum when they actually get round the full spin and into your hand BHAM. Ouch :( The Youngsters were on the Breezeblock last night, didn't listen to it but I will - early night you see. It was fucking freezing this morning, I need a coat.
