lunchtime runner!

2 laps round the Science Park this lunchtime in 15min14. Only ~2 miles and I am going to increase the number of laps to find an ideal distance (15 minutes is really not enough, even in the lunchtime) and also some other routes. Feeling pretty good at the moment, but quite hungry now as I had my lunch at 10am. Gives me a buzz for the rest of the (work) day!

resonant positivity

Now is the time for absolute positivity. Gone are the days where I mope around the house waiting for something to happen, if something doesn't happen I will make it happen. This weekend I played a badminton match (we came second, good fun nonetheless), went to the cinema to see "Ride with the Devil" an incredible american civil war film with Tobey Maguire (is it me or does he look like Jake "Donnie Darko" Gyllenhaal?), bought 4 new books (Im buying so many good books lately, when will I get to read them all!?) and wrote emails and letters to family and friends.
I have re-started doing pressups and situps every day (3 days in a row, something of a record for the last three months) and I am feeling much better (mentally and physically) for it. There is a side-effect, however, at the moment, while my brain gets used to all the extra endorphins, in that I am much much more aggressive :) Don't get on the wrong side of me this week or you might have broken bones and a sore pair of eardrums as a receipt.
Next weekend I have a TEFL weekend course, the weekend after I am going to London, and the following weekend is Chinese New Year where I shall also be going to see the celebrations in Chinatown London. After that I am off to Germany (in Feb) for a week to see ex-housemate Christine, and to see family. I've never been to Germany before and haven't been abroad since 2003 (shame on me. Although I have been to Shetland twice and done the coast-to-coast hike in this time) .

new year new me

Happy New Year!!!

I did my first ever 10k running race on NYE (the Ely NYE 10k) and romped home in 43 mins. After 3k I felt pretty shite not having got into any kind of rhythm overtaking slower runners and then adrenaline making one go too fast. By 6k, I had a rhythm going and although not sub-40 minutes I am bloody chuffed with it. My target for 2006 is a sub-40 min 10k. This means more longer distance training, Kev suggested that I go running at lunch time and offered me a nice 10k route to get me started. It's a really good idea seeing as though I hate running in the dark and running in the lunch-hour allows the training to flow more regularly. I'll keep you posted. Also considering doing a half-marathon (only 13 miles, or 21km) by the end of 2006.

Christmas was great, I went to the Parents where brother, grandparents and uncle were over for Christmas dinner. Over the following week I saw lots more family and generally had a great chilled out time eating good nosh and seeing the people I love. I have now got a really bastard nasty cold (icicles of snot constantly melting, the tissue supply cannot stem the flow) which my housemates have already suffered greatly under. For Chrimbo I got a Heart Rate Monitor, my max so far is 195bpm (training for the 10k last week, hehe), juicer, books, clothes, cd, money. Great!

Back to work yest and I am totally entralled by it all again. No wait. I hate every second that I am there and cannot wait to leave the place every day. More like it. I did more TEFL learning this evening. Im on the first module, about teaching, why people want to learn English, motivation and methodology of teaching English.
